How Warming Temperatures Affect Breeding Behavior in Graylag Geese

چکیده

You might have heard that dedication and perseverance are important elements for success. This is particularly true science, specifically the study of animal behavior. Collecting biological data decades can help scientists to better understand slow environmental changes their consequences. For instance, globally increasing temperatures may affect behavior reproduction. We investigated if how changes, such as a long-term increase in temperature milder winters, reproduction population graylag geese. To do that, we collected 29 years—by monitoring temperature, number eggs laid, young birds survive adulthood. found over time (an effect climate change), higher average had positive on reproductive success suggests flock geese studied could profit from warming temperatures, perhaps because window favorable laying raising prolonged when winters milder.

How does climate warming affect plant-pollinator interactions?

Climate warming affects the phenology, local abundance and large-scale distribution of plants and pollinators. Despite this, there is still limited knowledge of how elevated temperatures affect plant-pollinator mutualisms and how changed availability of mutualistic partners influences the persistence of interacting species. Here we review the evidence of climate warming effects on plants and po...

Grit Ingestion and Size-related Consumption of Tubers by Graylag Geese

—In herbivorous birds the processing rate of food is constrained by gizzard capacity. To enhance digestive processes, many species ingest grit to grind the food. Grit ingestion, however, may further limit the capacity of the gizzard. Graylag Geese (Anser anser) wintering in SW Spain fed mainly on Alkali Bulrush (Scirpus maritimus) tubers, showing a preference for small tubers. This preference m...

Pedigree Analysis and How Breeding Decisions Affect Genes

When evaluating your breeding program, remember that most traits you're seeking cannot be changed, fixed or created in a single generation. The more information you can obtain on how certain traits have been transmitted by your animal's ancestors, the better you can prioritize your breeding goals. Tens of thousands of genes interact to produce a single individual. All individuals inherit pairs ...

Molecular identification and characterization of novel coronaviruses infecting graylag geese (Anser anser), feral pigeons (Columbia livia) and mallards (Anas platyrhynchos).

In light of the finding of a previously unknown coronavirus as the aetiology of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), it is probable that other coronaviruses, than those recognized to date, are circulating in animal populations. Here, the results of a screening for coronavirus are presented, using a universal coronavirus RT-PCR, of the bird species graylag goose (Anser anser), feral pig...

How Will Climate Warming Affect Non-Native Pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus Populations in the U.K.?

Of the non-native fishes introduced to the U.K., the pumpkinseed is one of six species predicted to benefit from the forecasted climate warming conditions. To demonstrate the potential response of adults and their progeny to a water temperature increase, investigations of parental pumpkinseed acclimatization, reproduction and YOY over-wintering were carried out in outdoor experimental ponds und...
